Poltern in Vienna, done differently
Polterabend, or simply Poltern, is what Austrians call the stag or hen party. At Secret Mission it becomes a mission: you follow clues through Vienna’s city centre, question witnesses and suspects, and decide together which lead to follow.
The actors play their roles – you don’t have to rehearse or perform anything. The bride or groom is right in the middle of it, and so is everyone else.
- Up to 6 people: book directly in the calendar
- From 7 people: team against team
- No dress code – costumes are still welcome
- Right in the city centre, the bar around the corner

Up to six people play as one team; from seven, as two teams with staggered starts and a shared finale.
Costumes are fine – just make sure clothes and shoes are good for walking through the city. Let us know beforehand.
More than six? Team against team.
From seven people, you split into two teams. Both follow the same leads with staggered starts – who cracks the mission first becomes clear at the end, and you experience the finale together.

FAQ: Polterabend
What is a Polterabend in Austria?
In Austria, the stag or hen party is called Polterabend, or simply Poltern: friends celebrate with the bride or groom before the wedding – usually organised by the best man or maid of honour.
What can you do for a Polterabend in Vienna?
A mission, for example: in the afternoon you investigate for 60 to 90 minutes across the city centre, with puzzles and professional actors. Then you head straight on to the bar.
Is it an escape room?
Almost: you crack codes and solve puzzles like in an escape room – just not in one room, but at several places in Vienna’s city centre, and with actors instead of a loudspeaker.
Is it a scavenger hunt?
Not quite. Instead of ticking off stations, you follow a story: you question witnesses and suspects, make decisions and solve the mission in the end.
How many people can join?
A team has 1 to 6 people and books directly in the calendar, from €79.99 per person. From 7 people you play as two teams with staggered starts – we plan that on request.
Does it work during the day?
Yes, the mission is a daytime plan: games run on Saturdays and Sundays, with start times between 9:30 am and 7 pm.
What if the weather is bad?
Part of the mission is indoors, part outdoors. We play in the rain too, and we provide the ponchos. In a storm we agree on a new date with you.
Can we come in costume?
In principle, yes. Since you’ll be walking through the city, clothes and shoes should be up to it. Let us know beforehand.
Should we drink before or after the mission?
After. On the street and while hunting for clues you need a clear head – plan the mission as your opening act and raise a glass to your success afterwards.
Can we play in English?
Yes. You choose German or English when booking – handy when guests from abroad join in.
What if our date or group size changes?
Rebooking is free up to 72 hours before your date. If you play as two teams, we need changes in good time, because the staggered starts depend on them.
First the mission. Then the party.
